Jim Iyke, born James Ikechukwu Esomugha, is a Nigerian actor and rapper with significant dominance in the Nollywood industry. He has been acting since 2001 and has a reputation as the African bad boy because of his charisma off and on camera.

Jim Iyke was born on 25th September 1976 and is 46 years old.

Early Life and Education

James Ikechukwu Esomugha was born in Libreville, Gabon, to Nigerian parents from Enugu Agidi of Anambra state.

The family name was originally Okolue, but they changed it to Esomugha.

Jim Iyke has seven siblings who are all girls; he is the only male offspring of his parents. He did his primary school in Gabon, after which his family moved to Nigeria.

He enrolled in Federal Government college F. G. C. Kwali, Abuja, for his secondary school and graduated in 1991.

He then went to plateau state for his university education at the University of Jos, where he studied Banking and finance.

Personal Life and Marriage

Jim Iyke prefers to keep his personal life private. Although he has had many affairs, a failed marriage, and kids, the media didn’t know about it till he decided to share. Jim iyke was once married to Dana Kinduryte, with whom he had his first son

Harvis Chidubem Iyke in 2019. Jim Iyke speaks impeccable English, fluent Igbo, and average french. He learned taekwondo and earned a black belt in the martial art. His hobbies include reading, writing poetry,  cycling, and traveling the world.


After university, Jim moved to Lagos to become a product model. He modeled for a few years before he started his acting career in 2001.

He easily rose to fame due to his flawless execution of any role he was given.

His movie production company was established in 2007 and was named Untamed Productions. Movies like 2 dollaz, shades of white, American driver, and bad comments are films produced by Jim Iyke.

Bad comments was released in the cinemas in 2020, starring Jim Iyke, Sharon Ooja, and Osas Ighodaro, while 2 Dollaz was released in 2021 and premiered in different cinemas across America and London.

He also started a record label, Untamed Records, under which he released his first studio album, “Who am I?”  featuring A-list African artists like Tuface Idibia. Proceeds from the album sales were donated to the cause of helping disabled and less privileged children.

Jim Iyke has, since his debut, appeared in over 140 movies in Nollywood; by the end of 2013, he was one of the highest-paid actors in Nollywood. Some recent movies that Jim Iyke has appeared in include; Between Kings and Queens, Last Flight to Abuja, And then there was you, When love comes around, Stalker, American driver, Dead Mandate, Merry men: the real yoruba demons, Dead rite, The setup, Merry men 2: Another mission, and Bad comments.

During the 2021 Golden Icons African Movies Awards ceremony (GIAMA) in texas, which Jim hosted, he announced the launch of “Jim Iyke Unscripted,” a one-year reality tv show that will be based on his life and work and also supported jointly by African Magic and Oh Africa Tv.

His contribution to Nollywood as both an actor and a producer has been awarded different honors on various occasions. An example is receiving the Best Actor award up to five times in different award ceremonies, including the just concluded NET awards held in New York City.

Jim Iyke was a model before he ventured into acting and has never failed to serve stylish looks off and on the camera. He has a unique and desirable sense of style that attenuates his individuality and sets him off from other actors as a fashion icon and one of the best-dressed celebrities in Nigeria and beyond.

Jim Iyke is also an entrepreneur and does business in different sectors, including oil and gas, automobile dealership(he owns his own automobile dealership company called Untamed cars), real estate investments, event management, and ambassadorial contracts with Glo, a telecom company in Nigeria.


Jim Iyke founded the Jim Iyke Foundation for Children with Special Disabilities (JIFCSD), a project created to seek out children with disabilities and improve their health and well-being while providing them with opportunities that would have been impossible.

The foundation, since it was founded, has tried to raise awareness through different forums, symposia, and even entertainment shows to bring to the attention of the masses the struggles of these children and solicit their support. This paid off when big brands in Nigeria, such as Indomie Noodles, Nikon Hilton Hotel, and Pepsi, endorsed a 6000-children walk against poverty and child illiteracy in Abuja.

Currently, JIFCSD is one of the most successful independent organizations in Africa, run by a celebrity.

He also actively supported the Make a Change Campaign in Kenya in December 2012. Make a change is a charity project started by the Jamaican artist Cecile and Christopher Grey.
