Huawei Y9 – Review, Specs & Price in Nigeria

Despite all problems Huawei is currently facing, the company has still been able to maintain focus. Among phones the company released this year, is the Huawei Y9, a pretty cool smart device. The product is cool in all aspects, although one issue with this product, is that it runs the Android 8.1 Oreo OS. This should not really come as a surprise, considering all its issues with the US. However, if you do not find the Android 8.1 Oreo to be too poor, then this review is something you should read.

Design and Display

Huawei hardly disappoints when it comes to design, and the Huawei Y9 is not a product that would disappoint in that aspect. Just like most products from the company, this device is very appealing. The smart device measures about 7.71 cm as its width, 16.24 cm as its height, and 0.81 cm as its thickness.

And when its mass was measured, the phone was recorded to weigh about 173 grams. While the smartphone is often seen coming in sapphire blue, the product is also available in midnight black, coral red, and aurora purple. We are yet to find a person who does not appreciate the overall design of the product, and we strongly doubt you would be that person.

The Huawei Y9 is a phone having a 6.50-inch display. The display of this product is epic, with its aspect ratio being 19.5:5. Of course, the display of the smart device is a full HD display. And being a little more elaborate, the 6.50-inch display of the smartphone has got a resolution of 1,080 x 2,340 pixels.

Computing Power

The computing power of the Huawei Y9 is nothing you have to worry about. The product is loaded with hardware that would ensure you never have a reason to complain. Starting from the chipset powering the phone, Y9 is powered by the Hisilicon Kirin 710. The Hisilicon Kirin 710 is a pretty popular product among some of the best Android phones. This chipset features eight cores, in other words, it is an octa-core chipset. And thanks to the 12nm process technology, the power consumption of the chipset is significantly low.

Also, the GPU working with the Hisilicon Kirin 710 is not an item that can be pushed aside. Y9 also comes with an epic GPU, so the graphics problem is the least of all problems you should ever expect.

OS and Storage

Most mid-range and high-end smartphones released in 2019 run the Android 9.0 Pie OS. We even have a few ones running the Android 10 operating system. However, the Huawei Y9 runs the older Android 8.1 Oreo. As stated above, the reason for this, is the trade issues the company currently has with the US, and if you have always loved the company, you can discard this as a problem. But, like most popular Chinese smartphone manufacturers, this device does not run a stock Android 8.1. It rather runs a custom build of the OS, and this OS Is what they call the EMUI 8.2 operating system.

You should have no problem with the storage capacity of the Huawei Y9, as the smart device comes with an internal storage device having a capacity of about 64 GB. Most users of this device would need no additional storage. But for those who would require additional storage, more storage space could be available, with the help of a micro SD card.

If this is not your first time using an Android smartphone, you probably would not be surprised, when you find out that the total storage is far less than 64 GB. But for those who are not expecting something like this, you ought to understand that the OS and pre-installed apps require someplace to be stored. Also, there is a limit to how much of these storage space you can claim back.

The Huawei Y9 features a total of four cameras. While you might be thinking there is one camera in the front and three on the rear side, this is not true. We rather have two in the front and two on the rear side. The main front camera is a 16 megapixels camera, and this 16 MP camera is supported by a 2 MP camera. The rear side of the Huawei comes with a 13 MP main camera which has the support of a 2 MP secondary camera. And of course, the product comes with a LED flash.

Most Huawei smartphones feature a high-enhanced camera, so are the cameras of this phone highly-enhanced.

4G is now almost a standard, so the absence of this technology can not be justified by the company. The Huawei Y9 has pretty good support for 4G. However, this is not to mean that the product has no support for 2G and 3G networks.

Aside from having support for a good number of mobile network, we also find the phone to have support for the Wi-Fi technology. So using that super-fast Wi-Fi in your workplace should be no problem. In addition to having support for the Wi-Fi technology, the Huawei Y9 is also a product that could be used as a mobile hotspot.

Among things the Huawei Y9 also support, is the Bluetooth technology. However, unlike how many may have assumed, the phone does not come with NFC support. As regards USB port, the USB port featured by this product is a micro USB port.

Y9 features a fingerprint sensor, and this fingerprint sensor is positioned on its rear side. Other sensors the product comes with, include the following: proximity sensor, ambient light sensor, digital compass, gravity sensor, and gyroscope. With all these sensors coming with the device, you are guaranteed to get more out of the phone, than you could, when using a product lacking some of these items.

The battery that powers the Huawei Y9 is a 4,000 mAh battery. With such a powerful battery and highly-efficient components, the product promises to at least 9 hours of continuous gaming. And when you’re just listening to music, the phone is capable of running for up to 65 hours, before requiring a recharge.
