Itel P12 Review, Specs and Price in Nigeria

Itel P12 is a large smartphone, and it is difficult to classify. It is quite challenging to state whether the phone falls in the low-end group or mid-range group. The reason for this is that the phone comes with low-end specs and features, but has a 6.00 display and a 5000 mAh battery. For convenience’s sake, the phone will be considered a low-end device.

Itel P12 Review

iTel P12 was released in 2017. The smartphone is not popular, due to the fact that it was not well planned by the manufacturer. While mid-range users loved the large display and powerful battery, they hated all other aspects of the phone. In other words, they shied away from the phone. As for low-end users, they liked the specs and features, but the phone sold at the price of mid-range smart devices. In conclusion, the phone was not very successful because there was a disconnection between it and the market.

As a 2017 low-end smartphone, iTel P12 came does not come with support for 4G networks. For a low-end user, this is not a problem. A mid-range user may see this lack of support as a catch. However, the phone supports networks that fall in the second generation and the third generation. With support for networks in the third generation, the user should enjoy a seamless internet usage.

The RAM of iTel P12 is what mid-range users hate the most about the phone. In 2018, mid-range users expect phones designed for them, to come with 2 GB RAM. However, the phone falls greatly below this expectation. The phone has a 512 MB RAM. In today’s smartphone world, there is very little a 512 MB device can do.

iTel P12 is okay in the aspect of the chipset. The phone is powered by a chipset of acceptable specs. The chipset that powers this phone, is identified by the code 6572. The chipset is however called MediaTek MT6572, in the market. MediaTek MT6572 is made up of 4 processors. Unlike octa-core chipsets where the cores do not operate at the same speed, the cores of MT6572, operate at the same speed.

MediaTek MT6572 has an acceptable look. Since the display of the phone is large, it has a large body. The exact dimension of this smartphone is not available, but it can be pictured as one of the standard 2018 high-end phones. The smart device is not too thick, even though it is large. Plastic is the type of material used to make the case of iTel P12. The case of the phone is available in black, red, and white. By being available, it does not mean you can get a case replacement. It rather means a build of the phone can come in any of those colours.

iTel P12 runs Android 6.0 Marshmallow as its operating system. This operating system may not be okay for its kind of user. The reason for this is that there exist newer versions of the Android operating system. Some of these operating systems are Android 7.0 Nougat, Android 8.0 Ore and Android 9.0 Pie. These newer versions have features Marshmallow doesn’t. However, if a low-end user doesn’t mind running Marshmallow, it’s okay for them to buy this smartphone.

The internal storage space of iTel P12 corresponds to the standard of 2018 low-end devices. The smartphone comes with a storage device that has a capacity of 8 GB. With an 8 GB storage, a low-end user should use their phone for a good period before they ever need more storage space. When a user of this phone wants to expand the phone’s storage, a micro is all that is needed. However, SD cards larger than 32 GB should not be inserted into the smart device. This is just to avoid spoiling the device.

iTel P12 does not perform well in the camera aspect. At the same time, it can not be condemned in this aspect. The reason why this phone cannot be condemned is that the smartphone was not designed for people who give cameras great priority. The rear camera of the phone has a resolution of 5 megapixels. As it known, gone are the days when 5 MP cameras used to be a nice thing. The front camera of the phone is poorer than the rear camera. The front camera has a resolution of 2 megapixels, and this is clearly poor.

Display size is one of the main things people consider when buying a smartphone. The reason for this is that people have realised that the bigger a phone’s screen is, the greater the user experience they get from their smartphone. In response to this, manufacturers have made an increase in display size, one of the things they consider technological progress.

iTel decided to go the extreme when designing this smartphone. While low-end phones have displays between 4.00 inches (10.16 cm) and 5.00 inches (12.7 cm), iTel P12 has a 6.00 inches (15.24 cm) display. A display of this size is what is expected from a high-end phone, not a low-end phone. Such a large display is very cool to feature in a low-end device.

The display of iTel P12, belongs to the in-plane switching (IPS) family. It does not belong to the TFT, unlike some low-end Android phones. The display further has a resolution of 480 x 854 pixels. With such a resolution in a 6.00 inches (15.24 cm) display, a pixel density of 244 pixels per inch (ppi) exists. This pixel density is clearly not poor for a low-end phone. To justify this claim, the majority of low-end phones have a display pixel density less than 240 pixels per inch.

iTel P12 performed beyond expectation, in the aspect of the display, but below expectation, in the aspect of RAM. The RAM of the phone has a small capacity of 512 MB. In 2018, low-end smartphones are expected to have at least 1 GB of RAM. The lack of a large RAM does not mean the phone is bad. The phone will operate with no issues if Go apps and light apps are used. Go apps are not just for Android 8.0 Oreo phones, they can also be run on Marshmallow.

Some people ask, why can’t the phone take some space of its storage, and use it as RAM? The answer is, a phone can use a flash storage as RAM, and this exists in some computing systems. However, storage devices, apart from RAMs, are not optimized for random access. In other words, time gets wasted if a chipset works with an unoptimized memory, as its RAM. In addition, additional RAM cannot be added to smartphones, like laptops.

The design of iTel P12 is not bad. At the same time, its appearance isn’t epic. One of the nice things about the phone’s appearance is that it is large. This largeness is expected since the phone comes with a large display. Due to its largeness, the device is often mistaken as a mid-range phone. The size of the smartphone has a catch, which is that getting a pouch for the phone can be challenging.

The largeness of iTel P12 is not the only nice thing about the phone’s appearance. In addition to being large, the phone comes in three fitting colours. The colours in question, are black, red, and white. According to sales statistics of the smartphone, black is the most liked of these colours.

MediaTek MT6572 is responsible for the management of the hardware of iTel P12. The chipset is also the hardware that executes programs of the computer system. The importance of the chipset will probably be appreciated better if we imagine a scenario where it is taken out. Without MediaTek MT6572, the phone will never come alive. And when the system does not come alive, we practically do not have a computer system.

MediaTek MT6572 is made up of four cores. Tech geeks will use the term “quad-core”. The purpose of having four cores in the chipset is to help the phone carry out simultaneous tasks more efficiently. In addition, multiple cores in the chipset amplify the computing power of the phone. Processors in iTel P12, operate at speeds not higher than 1.30 GHz.

The storage used by iTel P12 is an 8 GB flash storage. The storage device is, however, the location of the operating system and some pre-installed apps of iTel P12. The operating system and pre-installed apps on the phone, take about 3 GB of the 8 GB of storage. With about 5 GB available for use, some users of the phone will need more storage space, at some point.

When a user of iTel P12 needs more storage, store space expansion can be made. As usual, a micro SD card is what is needed for storage space expansion. When trying to expand the storage space of this phone, the SD card should be 32 GB or less in capacity. The phone was not designed to support SD card larger than 32 GB.

iTel smartphones that start with “P”, are phones with very powerful batteries. They can be called the power series of iTel. Just like other iTel devices starting with “P”, its battery is quite powerful. The battery of this phone has a capacity of 5000 mAh. With 5000 mAh, the user of this phone can have rest of mind, as there wouldn’t be need to charge the phone every time.

The charging of this battery should take over 3 hours. This should not be a surprise, as the battery has a high capacity. Some may argue that there are 5000 mAh phones that get fully charged, under 3 hours. This is true, but it should be recalled that such phone comes with rapid charge system. iTel P12 does not come with this technology, so it will take time to charge fully.

The cameras featured by iTel P12, are poor cameras. However, this is not worthwhile stating because the phone was not designed for taking pictures. The front of the phone has a 2 MP camera which is poorly enhanced. The rear side of the smartphone has another camera which comes with a resolution of 5 megapixels.
