Infinix Hot S is a nice smartphone that was released in November 2017. The smart phone is cool in all aspects except its operating system. The phone comes with a version of the Android operating system (OS) that is quite outdated. While the OS of the smart phone is important, this does not mean the phone should not be bought. For a user who does not bother much about the OS a phone, Hot S is definitely a device worthy of taking into consideration.
Infinix Hot S Review
The smartphone industry was taken by surprise when Infinix Mobility announced Infinix Hot S. The market was expecting the announcement of the next generation of the Hot series, but the manufacturer announced this nice smartphone. Following the announcement, the smart device was released in November 2017. Ever since its release, it has been available for sale online and in physical stores.
Like many of the mid-range smartphones that were released in 2017, Infinix Hot S supports mobile networks of three generations. The generations of mobile networks it supports are the second, third and fourth generation. Having support for all these generations is very cool, as they all have their pros and cons.
Infinix Hot S has the size of a standard 2017 smartphone, it has a length of 148.80 mm and a width of 73.20 mm. According to 2018 mid-range standard, this smart device is small, but this is not a tangible reason not to buy the smart phone. The phone is quite slim, having a thickness of 8.10 mm. It furthermore comes in three colours which are namely gold, matte black, and apple red.
The display of Infinix Hot S is a little below the size expected from a 2018 mid-range smartphone. It is no surprise since it was released in 2017. While 2017 mid-range smartphones are expected to have a minimum display size of 5.50 inches, this phone has a display that measures 5.20 inches. The display of this smartphone furthermore has a resolution of 720 x 1280 pixels. In other words, it has a pixel density of 368 of pixels per inch.
There are two builds of Hot S available in the market. One of these builds comes with a 2 GB RAM and the other comes with a 3 GB RAM. The build with a 2 GB RAM is a little cheaper than the 3 GB RAM build. While the majority of Android smartphone users will find 2 GB RAM to be adequate, there will be some users who will find it inadequate. Users who are not okay with a 2 GB RAM device can always go for the 3 GB RAM.
Although Infinix Hot S is a mid-range smartphone, it is championed by a chipset of high-end smart devices. The chipset that champions the smartphone is MediaTek MT6753 which is an octa-core chipset. It is very rare to come across octa-core chipsets in mid-range smartphones. The processors (cores) of this chipset can operate at speeds up to 1.50 GHz. It is possible to overclock cores of the chipset, but it is not recommended, to avoid damaging the cores of the chipset.
As stated above, Infinix Hot S scores poorly in the aspect of the operating system (OS). Had this phone featured a better operating system, it would have been a very nice thing. The operating system run by the phone is Android 6.0 Marshmallow. Android 6.0 Marshmallow is no doubt a poor OS, considering the availability of Android 7.0 Nougat, Android 8.0 Oreo, and Android 9.0 Pie. Had the device not run a modified build Android Marshmallow, it would have been possible to easily upgrade its operating system.
Infinix Hot S has the standard storage space size of a 2018 mid-range smartphone. The smartphone comes with an internal storage device that has a capacity of 16 GB. Just as expected, the total free space of the phone is less than 16 GB. While some users of this phone will find the internal storage space of the phone to be adequate, some users will not. Users that are storage-space hungry can insert a 128 GB micro SD card into the phone. Micro SD cards lower than 128 GB in capacity can also be used.
The cameras featured by Infinix Hot S are two. The smart phone’s cameras are an 8 MP camera and a 13 MP camera. The 8 MP camera of the phone is the selfie camera of the phone, while the rear camera of the phone is the 13 MP camera. Both this front camera and the rear camera are well-enhanced.

CHIPSET and GPU
An aspect of smartphones which is important but many users do not pay attention to, is the chipset aspect. In this current age, a very large percentage of smartphones either come with a quad-core chipset or an octa-core chipset. Quad-core chipset are made up of 4 processors, while octa-core chipsets are made up of 8 processors.
The 4 cores in a quad-core chipset all work collaboratively on tasks. In octa-core chipsets, the operation is quite different. In octa-core chipsets, the 8 processors exist in two groups. One of these groups processes at high speed, while the other group operate at a maximum speed lower than the speed of the first group.
The chipset that champions Infinix Hot S is an octa-core chipset. This chipset is made up 8 cores, some of which can process at a maximum speed of 1.50 GHz. This processing speed of 1.50 GHz is clearly higher than the standard 1.30 GHz. With this processing speed and a 2 GB/ 3 GB RAM, the operation of the smartphone will be seamless. This chipset in question is known as MediaTek MT6753.
Years ago, the graphics of computing systems used to be processed by the processors of the system. However, graphics processing has grown into complex tasks in a matter of years. In this current technological age, graphics tasks are handled by special processors known as graphics processing unit (GPU). These processors are optimized for graphics related tasks
As smartphones are generally known for, Infinix Hot S comes with two cameras. An 8 MP camera is nicely positioned in the front of the smartphone and acts as a selfie camera. For selfie lovers, most especially ladies, this camera produces epic selfies. These epic selfies are the result of the camera’s power and enhancements it comes with. The selfie camera of this phone is supported by a LED flash.
The rear camera of Infinix Hot S is superior to its selfie camera. The rear camera is a 13 MP camera, and it is nicely positioned on the rear side of the smartphone, just like the selfie camera. As expected, the camera produces very cool pictures even in poorly-illuminated places. Apart from being optimized for poorly-illuminated places, the camera has the support of a bright of LED flash.
Some years ago, the most important things about smartphones are their hardware. However, things are different in this present age. Not only the hardware is important, the operating system of phones are also important. The kind and version of an operating system that a phone runs tells a lot of about the smartphone.
Infinix Hot S runs an operating system (OS) that is not considered cool in this present technological age. The phone runs Android 6.0 Marshmallow which is not up to standard in 2018. This operating system was released well over 2 years ago and has been replaced by three versions of Android which are namely Android 7.0 Nougat, Android 8.0 Oreo, and Android 9.0 Pie.
Although Android 6.0 Marshmallow is considered below standard in 2018, it does not mean this operating system is bad. The reason why people look down at this OS is that newer versions come with some features these people desire. However, a user who does not really care much about the operating system of their phone can consider this phone, when buying a new phone.
Infinix Hot S runs a modified a build of Android 6.0 Marshmallow. In other words, the OS of the smartphone can be upgraded with upgrades provided by Google. Had it been the smartphone runs an unmodified build of the phone, OS upgrade will have been possible. However, for people who insist on using this smartphone but cannot use Marshmallow, good smartphone technicians can be visited to help upgrade the OS of the phone.
The displays of smart phones have always been one of the most important things about them. The larger a phone’s display is, the more classy it looks. Larger display furthermore often infer better user experience. While larger display means more power consumption coming from the display of a phone, Infinix Hot S has a powerful that makes up for this higher power consumption.
The display of Infinix Hot S is 5.20 inches in size and this display does not meet up to 2018 standard of mid-range smart devices. The standard for 2018 mid-range devices is 5.50 inches, whereas the smartphone is 0.30 inches less than this standard. This display has a resolution of 720 x 1280 pixels which is standard. In addition, this resolution gives the display a very cool pixel density of 368 pixels per inch (ppi).
Although, Infinix Hot S is not as big as mid-range devices of 2018, the smartphone has a very cool appearance. The phone is 148.80 mm long and has a width of 73.20 mm. The phone is not so small, measuring 8.10 mm in thickness. It furthermore has a weight of 140 grams. Infinix Hot S has a metallic body and comes in three colours which are gold, matte black, and apple red.
As fingerprint scanners have become a highly-desired feature in smartphones, Infinix Hot S has a fingerprint scanner. This fingerprint scanner is nicely positioned on the rear side of the smartphone. This sensor brings a lot of great capabilities to the smartphone.
