Infinix X559 which is popularly known as Infinix Hot 5, was released some days ago. This smart device which was released alongside Hot 5 Lite, is an improvement to Hot 4. Infinix Hot 5 has its battery as the most remarkable thing about it. The phone features a 4000 mAh Li-Ion battery, which is no doubt a cool feature for the smart device.
Infinix Hot 5 Review
Since the release of Infinix Hot 4, Nigerian smartphone users have been looking into the future, expecting the release of Hot 5. However, the manufacturer refused to say anything about the phone but has now released this smart device, alongside a lite edition which is known as Infinix Hot 5 Lite. Infinix Hot 5 and Hot 5 Lite were released very late in the previous month, and are now available for sales on Jumia.
Just like the lite edition, Hot 5 has no support for 4G mobile networks. Although this is very disappointing, it, however, does not make the device worthless of buying. A 3G network should serve a user of this phone perfectly. A user can consider the 3G network of Airtel if they have been having issues with 3G networks of other mobile operators in the country.
Infinix Hot 5 is a dual SIM smart device. The idea of a phone supporting the use of two SIM cards was popularized in Nigeria, by Tecno. This concept has however become a norm in the current smartphone market. Hot 5 uses micro SIM cards, not nano-SIM cards used by a lot of new smart devices.
Infinix Hot 5 has the exact appearance of Infinix Hot 5 Lite. The phone is large and thick, and a number buyers of this phone have expressed their discontent over the thickness of this phone. To give a good idea of how large Hot 5 is, the smartphone is 154.80 mm long and 77.70 mm wide. The smart device has a plastic body and comes in five colours which are fine gold, sand-stone black, white, lemon, and red.
A large display is featured by Infinix Hot 5. This large display has a thin layer of an input device on its surface, taking away the need for a physical keypad. In size, the display of Hot 5 measure 5.50 inches (13.97 centimetres) — the minimum display size of a standard 2018 mid-range smartphone. The display has a resolution of 720 x 1280 pixels and a pixel density of 264 pixels per inch (ppi).
A set of four processors serve as the brain of Infinix Hot 5. These cores are packed in a chipset tagged MediaTek MT6580. The cores all work together to help complete tasks within a shorter period. The processors in the chipset all operate at the same speed, which is 1.30 GHz. In addition, these four cores of MediaTek MT6580 use a 2 GB SD-RAM as their main memory.
Infinix Hot 5 has a total of two cameras, one positioned in the front of the smartphone. The other camera which lies on the rear side of the smart device is an 8 MP camera. The rear camera has the support of a number of enhancements as well as a bright LED flash. The front camera of Hot 5 is a 5 MP camera and it has its enhancements as well.
Running as the operating system is the Android 7.0 Nougat operating system. While Android Nougat is a great operating system, the manufacturer of this smartphone could have done better featuring Android 8.0 or 8.1 Oreo. There is nothing wrong with using Nougat, but Oreo has a lot of new features that users of this phone can enjoy.
Just like the lite edition of Infinix Hot 5, this phone uses a 16 GB flash storage as its internal storage. 16 GB internal storage is the de facto storage space for 2018 mid-range smart devices, and it’s a cool thing this phone does not disappoint in this aspect.
However, it is a common thing to see smartphone users run out of their 16 GB storage. If this happens, a user of this smartphone can provide more storage to the device using a micro SD card.
Infinix Hot 5 has it’s a powerful battery as its selling point. The smart device’s system is powered by a 4000 mAh battery. The battery is a Li-Ion battery which can be charged under 3 hours, thanks to a rapid-charge system featured by the smartphone.

CHIPSET and RAM
Infinix Hot 5 and Hot 5 Lite, are so similar that the only difference between them lies in their RAM size. While Hot 5 Lite has a 1 GB RAM as its main memory, Hot 5 has a 2 GB RAM as its main memory. For a mid-range smartphone user who does not use their phone for heavy tasks, the 1 GB RAM should be adequate. For users who use their device for RAM-intensive tasks, the standard Hot 5 is the right option.
Infinix Hot 5 is championed by a chipset of the Chinese chipset giant, MediaTek. The chipset championing Hot 5 is MediaTek MT6580. MediaTek MT6580 belongs to the quad-core family, and the processors in it have a common processing speed of 1.30 GHz. Considering the overall processing speed of the chipset, the chipset processes at 5.20 GHz.
NETWORK AND TECHNOLOGIES
Accessing the internet can be done in a number of ways when using Infinix Hot 5. The smart device can access the internet by using a 2G network of a mobile network in the country. As 2G has become quite outdated in the present smartphone age, a user of this smartphone can make use of a 3G mobile network to access the internet.
While 4G networks exist in Nigeria, a user of Infinix Hot 5 cannot access the internet using a network of this generation. The reason for this is that the phone does not have support for networks of this generation. It is no doubt this lack of support for 4G networks is bad, this should not, however, dissuade a person from buying the phone.
Aside from being able to access the internet with 2G and 3G networks, a user of this smartphone can also access the internet using the Wi-Fi technology. Infinix Hot 5 has support for Wi-Fi, giving it the capability to connect to the internet wirelessly.
The use of Wi-Fi is not limited to just connecting to the internet. This technology also enables the smartphone to connect wirelessly, to personal area networks. In addition, the smart device can act as a switch/router, creating a computer network.
Infinix Hot 5 supports some other cool technologies like Bluetooth and USB-OTG. Bluetooth and USB-OTG give the device the capability to connect and use peripheral devices. With Bluetooth and USB-OTG, the phone can use an external keyboard. USB-OTG also makes it possible for this phone to charge other devices and use a USB flash drive.
Infinix Hot 5 is quite large and thick as many Infinix phones are known for. The phone is 154.80 mm long and 77.70 mm wide. The device furthermore has a thickness of 8.35 mm, but this seems to be a catch of the device as many buyers of the phone have complained about this. In addition, the mid-range smartphone has a mass of 168 grams.
In terms of appearance, this smart device is not only considered cool because of its large size, it is also considered great because of the colour it comes in. The smartphone comes in the following colours: fine gold, sand-stone black, white, lemon, and red. Not just that, this phone features a plastic cover that helps present this phone as an elegant one.
In the aspect of the display, Infinix Hot 5 scores well by featuring a relatively large 5.50 inches display. A large display is no doubt a highly desired feature among many smartphone users. With the help of this large display, users of this phone will have a great user experience, as large displays often make smartphones easier to use and more enjoyable.
The display of Infinix Hot 5 is not just large, the display also has a standard resolution of 720 x 1280 pixels. Making some calculations, the display has a pixel density of 264 ppi. With such a pixel density, this smart device will produce graphics of standard quality.
Infinix Hot 5 comes with a 16 GB flash storage. This size of flash storage is the standard storage size of 2018 mid-range smartphones. With the help of this storage space, users of this phone have room to have a lot of heavy apps on their device. Users who will find this to be very cool, are game lovers.
Infinix Hot 5 supports memory expansion with the help of a micro SD card. With the support for storage expansion, a user of this smartphone can have more games, media and files on their phone. It is, however, important to note that storage space expansion cannot be done beyond 32 GB.
The smartphone comes with all basic sensors expected from an Android phone. Some sensors featured by this smart device include an accelerometer, gyroscope, proximity sensor, compass, and light sensor. Compared to the sensors of some Android smartphones, the sensors featured by Infinix Hot 5 are more power-efficient.
The 4000 mAh Li-Ion battery featured by Hot 5 makes the phone one of the Infinix phone with the most powerful batteries. Ordinarily, Infinix devices are known to come with battery with average power. It, however, seems the trend battery trend growing among other manufacturers is what prompted Infinix Mobility to equip this phone with such a battery.
As expected, Infinix X559 has a rapid-charge system which helps accelerate the rate at which the battery is filled with energy, when charging the phone. Without this rapid-charge system, charging this smartphone will take as much as 5 hours. However, with the help of this rapid charge system, the 4000 mAh battery of this phone can be fully charged, under 3 hours.
