Ecobank has launched its new mobile banking app which will give its customers access to transact business across 33 African countries seamlessly. The Pan-African bank developed the app to enable its customers across these countries transfer money, pay bills and shop conveniently from home. The app is the “first unified app delivered by any institution for use in 33 countries.”
The app was launched in Lagos, Nigeria last weekend and allows customers transfer money in these 33 countries without paying any fees. The app workS with Ecobank’s Xpress Account and allows customers open new accounts online easily.
Speaking for the bank, its Group Executive Director for Consumer Banking, Patrick Akinwuntan said, “This product launch fulfils our promise to create relevant solutions for consumers. With the Ecobank Mobile App, Ecobank customers can now make and receive instant payments across 33 African countries on their mobile devices. They can also pay in store with their mobile phones. This is genuine convenience delivered to our consumers.”
The Managing Director of Ecobank, Mr Charles Kie also spoke saying the reason Lagos was picked as the launch location is because Nigeria is a leading hub for technology and entrepreneurship for the bank. He also said that the mobile app will allow customers in Nigeria and other countries grow their businesses by giving them a secure and convenient way of banking.
Ecobank has a set target of 100 million customers and the management hopes that this app will make that goal a reality. This app will greatly improve business between African countries and boost their economies. The mobile app can be downloaded from the Google Play Store.
