On Wednesday 23rd October 2013 barely 24 hours after the official release of BBM on iPhone and Android, Research in Motion (RIM) reported that over 10 million people on non-BlackBerry devices downloaded the app.
The executive vice president of BBM at RIM, Andrew Bocking said “The mobile messaging market is full of opportunity for BBM. We intend to be the leading private social network for everyone who needs the immediate communication and collaboration of instant messaging combined with the privacy, control and reliability delivered through BBM.”
BBM for Android and iPhones was to be released on September 22ndhowever illegal applications were uploaded to the app store and caused the postponement of its release. Even with this, fans still raced to download the software immediately it was released.
